“Celebrating 40 Years of Health, Balance & Hope in our Community”

Porter-Starke Services is proud to celebrate its 40th Anniversary in 2015. We believe that advancing health, balance, and hope for anyone means advancing it for everyone, so we are grateful for opportunities to touch so many lives. The people we serve are our neighbors, our coworkers, our friends, our family members, and ourselves.

This is our community. These are some of our stories.

Stories of Health

  • The Turkey Trot was a great start to our Thanksgiving day! Love the feel of family and community coming together in a healthy activity. Thanks for all you do to make this possible, and thanks for all you do for the mental (and physical!) health of our area!
  • I do some type of exercise every day. I get friends and family involved to keep me motivated.
  • Each day I choose to maintain my smoke-free status. I quit 3.5 years ago, and every day is a choice.
  • The addiction program has given me the basic foundation to build a life of sobriety, and the treatment has helped make sobriety an attainable goal.
  • I am diabetic, and I work every day to feel well mentally, physically, and spiritually. I strive to be healthy and keep my sugars stable. I do not let this diagnosis define me, but I educate myself to better understand diabetes and live a long healthy life.
  • Staff show honest concern for my recovery, which makes all the difference. This place changed my life for the better.

Stories of Balance

  • I take time out of my day just for me. Whether it's reading a book or working out in the morning, it helps me to balance my day.
  • I feel talking to people makes me feel so much better than anything else I could do. It lets me grow emotionally.
  • Therapy has been most rewarding and enlightening and healing. I am at a completely different place from a year and one month ago.
  • I've matured a lot. I've grown understanding, patience, and mindfulness. I practice radical acceptance now, and I meditate often. I've learned to eat and exercise properly, which helps me exert energy and stay occupied instead of getting lost in my mind. I've learned how to control my anger, and I know there's always someone to talk to.
  • I've been clean for a year now, and my perception has changed for the better. Treatment has helped me focus on what's important in my life  my career, being on a steady path, and learning to be happy with myself. It's helped me go where I want to be. There are still things I need to figure out, but all and all, things are good.
  • Before I came to Porter-Starke, I had been constantly spiraling out of control. I needed stability and support, and the people here are supportive. They really care. They helped me find my wings so I could fly solo.

Stories of Hope

  • Day by day and little by little I watched as my son re-emerged from beneath the tough, thick layers of addiction. I was able to be with him each day as he healed and restored himself not only to who he was before drugs but also to who he could be after drugs! Next month my son will be 3 years clean. He has made a new life for himself. He is a wonderful son and brother, and he is well respected in his work field. He has an amazing attitude about life, and he has a wonderful woman that he shares all this with!
  • I'm stronger now. Recovery has brought out the fighter in me. On my hardest days, I realize, "This is a tough time, but I can get through this." And I fight, and I get through it. I also got a job, and I gained a new perspective on life. I am more uplifted now. I believe in me, and others believe in me too. What started with one small thing has multiplied into many things. And I've gained other things along the way, like my relationship with my family. I'm doing so much better than I ever have before in my life.
  • I accidentally stumbled into the place I needed to be. I am grateful for the staff of therapists for educating me in substance abuse, understanding my behavior, and helping me in my recovery. I used drugs for 22 years. I never thought I'd be able to change my life. Thank you.
  • I practice wellness through spirituality - I always felt I was a religious person, but as I began study in addiction, I became a spiritual person. Understanding spirituality with regard to addiction has been my source of wellness in my life.
